Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable

Have you ever stood in line outside a club, hoping and waiting for the bouncer to let you in?  Have you felt the club doorkeeper’s eyes scrutinizing you through a peephole of a door without a handle, hoping your outfit is stylish enough for you to gain admittance? Andy Warhol didn’t…

The Velvet Underground & Nico was originally released in March 1967 by Verve Records. Recorded with the first professional line-up of The Velvet Underground, including Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen "Moe" Tucker; with Nico, who would occasionally sing lead with the band at the instigation of their mentor and manager, Andy Warhol.  Recorded in 1966 during Andy Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable multimedia event tour, The Velvet Underground & Nico would gain notoriety for its experimentalist performance sensibilities, as well as its focus on controversial subject matter expressed in many of their songs.

Nico sang lead on three of the album's tracks—"Femme Fatale", "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "I'll Be Your Mirror"—and back-up on "Sunday Morning". In 1966, as the album was being recorded, this was also the line-up for their live performances as a part of Warhol's Exploding Plastic Inevitable.

The Deaf Poets at Death to the Sun

Sean Wouters & Nicolas Espinosa

The Deaf Poet's performance at Death to the Sun was anything but inaudible. The  vibrations of the songs crawled through the crowds as familiar lyrics were being screamed by several fans. Catchy tunes and crashing beats spit out from The Deaf Poets who's songs have an energetic & capturing feel.  As Sean Wouters screams crack into a punk style chord as his guitar riffs compliment Nicolas’ peddle kicks. If you wanna hear songs that come crashing into your head & won't get the hell out till you have it more & more.. Than the Deaf Poets is what you crave. (by Leidy Fuentes)

Syd Barrett on The Meth Minute 39

Stephen Calloway

Like so much at the Sixties Graphics exhibition, the original Satanic Majesties print is wonderfully redolent of its historical moment: the period between 1966 and 1969, when the clean, knowing sophistication of Swinging London gave way to the swirling, intoxicating utopianism of the Summer of Love. The curators, Stephen Calloway and Margaret Timmers, both have found memories of the 1960s, and the display feels like a labor of love...

Wavves - "Post Acid"

The Wavves released the new music video for their Green Label Sound single “Post Acid” this week. The “Post Acid” video was shot in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles. Acclaimed DIY photographer/filmmaker Patrick O’Dell directed. Patrick O’Dell, who is best known for his short-form documentary series Epicly Later’d, has also directed music videos for Morrissey and Panda Bear. O’Dell’s “Post Acid” video features friend and professional skateboarder Kevin “Spanky” Long as the alien who befriends the band and embarks on a raucous, fun-filled day of skateboarding, hanging out, and playing a party gig.
When asked about the concept for the video, Wavves’ Nathan Williams said “I’m glad I finally got to fulfill my dream of ripping off the premise of the movie Encino Man… except we replaced the caveman with a skateboarding alien!”
"I love it when a band comes up with something totally bizarre and ambitious rather than shrugging and saying ‘I don’t know, what do you wanna do?’ as they mope around looking cool,” O’Dell comments. “I feel like we’ve almost made one of those fan videos where an anonymous person out there cuts up a movie they like and fits it together with a song they like and uploads it to YouTube. This is one of those videos, but the band just happens to star in the movie.”

When You're Strange: A Film About The Doors

There are a usually two ways of looking at iconic 1960s rock group, The Doors. One views it as nothing more than a vehicle for front man Jim Morrison, an enigmatic and undeniably charismatic singer with little regard for convention and, to some, a profound lyricist. Another finds Morrison's self-indulgent, self-destructive behavior as nothing more than rampant narcissism; a textbook demonstration of what can happen when a massive ego gains access to big money and even more massive adulation. When You're Strange: A Film About The Doors does little to change anyone's opinion, but does set the record straight in ways that Oliver Stone's heavily revisionist biopic, The Doors (1991), never did.

Eight Miles High

Released in '66, Eight Mile High is one the best works from the Byrds. This song created lots of controversy due to its lyrical content. Most people though Eight Miles High is about drugs, but the truth is the Byrds wrote this song after their first trip to London and the lyrics are based on the monotone scenery of the city. "..grey grey town known for its sound.." The band was doing drugs but if they admit to it the song will be banned from Radio and TV broadcast which happen after a radio station reported the song for indulging drug use. As soon as one station decided not to play it, the rest followed and thus making it drop out of the charts. For the resurrection of good psycho music, here it is Eight Mile High - Byrds
